This was the vote on final passage of the massive bill to reauthorize a host of federal agricultural programs for six years. Progressives supported the bill as a means to even out the ups and downs of the farm cycle and protect family farms from going bankrupt. Opponents were generally Republicans, who preferred a free-market approach to the agricultural economy. Final passage came on a vote of 64-35. After this vote, the bill was signed into law by the president. |
